Catastrophic Cockatiels is on a long term breeding hiatus, meaning we are not currently breeding cockatiels and will not be breeding for some time.
We thank everyone for their business and interest, and for considering us when they are looking to add a new member to their flock.
We started breeding cockatiels in 2012, starting with our first pair: Tweety and Sylvester. We currently have 4 breeding pairs, which are bred predominantly from may-november. As a small hobby breeder, we cannot guarantee if or when birds will be available. Please check back regularly, or contact us for our next planned breedings.
I have owned birds from the time I was 8. We are originally from NJ, and relocated to maine in October 2013. I am seen as a bit of a bird guru and regularly consult people with cockatiel and similar small parrot problems, questions, and concerns. If you have any problems or questions, feel free to email me. I check my email several times a day.
Birds destined to be breeders are NCS banded and parent raised with lots of handling! Birds meant to be pets are handfed from about 4 weeks old and are also NCS banded. Any bird can be DNA sexed for an additional fee, however, we sometimes know the gender of the bird based on its color and its parents' colors! We absolutely do not sell unweaned babies under any circumstances.
All birds come with written 72 hour health guarantees, pedigree, and free lifetime consultation and advice, in addition to a cockatiel care sheet. They are all also sold with sales contracts. We do accept payments, please contact us for more information!
All sales, payments, and deposits are final. If the bird perishes before leaving Catastrophic Cockatiels, you may either be refunded your deposit and payments, or apply them to a different bird. If you change your mind after you buy a bird, we will take it back but you will not be refunded. We have yet to lose a weaned bird, from illness, injury or otherwise.
Our babies are fed on Tropican formula, and weaned onto a mixed diet of Roudybush, seeds, fresh fruits and veggies, and home made birdy mash. Unless reserved before 6 weeks, they have their wings clipped after they become competent at flying for their own safety. A sample of the food we feed them, as well as a list of stores and websites that sell it, will be given at the time of pick-up.
We do not require a deposit to hold a bird, but if you would like to, you may make a deposit or payments on the bird while it is being hand fed.
Please note: Catastrophic Cockatiels reserves the right to refuse the sale of a bird to anyone. We have unfortunately had to do it in our past, and will not hesitate to do it again if we feel the bird is not going to an excellent home. We also reserve the right to refuse any kind of business with any individual, aviary, or anyone associated with such. We do "google" names and check pet black-lists! We do not sell to ANYONE under the age of 18. If you are a minor and would like one of our birds, you must have a parent or guardian pay for it.
At this time we do not ship birds, however, we will drive to meet up to 2 hours away for gas/toll money (currently 21 cents/mile). We also travel from central Maine to northern New Jersey several times a year and may be able to meet along the way, or in New Jersey.
Most birds are pet quality, but we do occasionally breed some show qualities. Please inquire with us for our next planned breedings and available birds!
We do currently have a waiting list for certain colors, if you are interested in a specific color or bird from a specific pair please let us know! Our most popular color is Lutino Pied.
Colors we breed:
-Normal -Normal Pied - Lutino Pied -Lutino Pearl Pied -Cinnamon Pied -Cinnamon Pearl Pied -Cinnamon Pearl -Pastelface -Pastelface Pied -White Face -White face Pied
